Claudia Roth MdB

Claudia Roth MdB ist Vizepräsidentin des Deutschen Bundestages sowie Mitglied des Vorstandes der Deutschen Parlamentarischen Gesellschaft. Geboren 1955 in Ulm, studierte Claudia Roth nach dem Abitur im Jahre 1974 Theaterwissenschaften an der Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität in München. Ab 1975 arbeitete sie zunächst als Dramaturgie-Assistentin, später als Dramaturgin an den Städtischen Bühnen in Dortmund sowie am „Hoffmanns Comic Teater“ in Unna. Von 1982 bis 1985 war sie Managerin der Band „Ton Steine Scherben“.

Als Pressesprecherin der ersten grünen Fraktion im Deutschen Bundestag wechselte sie 1985 in die Politik. 1989 wurde sie ins Europäische Parlament gewählt. Dort blieb sie bis 1998, ab 1994 als Fraktionsvorsitzende der Grünen, bevor sie in den Deutschen Bundestag einzog. Von 1998 bis 2001 war sie Vorsitzende des neu gegründeten Ausschusses für Menschenrechte und Humanitäre Hilfe, zwischen März 2003 und Oktober 2004 dann Beauftragte der rot-grünen Bundesregierung für Menschenrechtspolitik und Humanitäre Hilfe im Auswärtigen Amt.
2001 wurde Claudia Roth erstmals Parteivorsitzende von Bündnis 90/Die Grünen. Sie wurde 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 und 2012 in diesem Amt wiedergewählt. 2013 schied sie als Parteivorsitzende aus und wurde am 22. Oktober 2013 zur Vizepräsidentin des Deutschen Bundestags gewählt. Am 24. Oktober 2017 erfolgte die Wiederwahl.
Neben ihrem politischen Engagement war Claudia Roth von 2011 bis 2013 Beauftragte für Umwelt- und Klimaschutz in der DFB-Kommission Nachhaltigkeit. Sie ist Mitglied des Kuratoriums der DFB-Kulturstiftung. Claudia Roth ist Mitglied in der Humanistischen Union, bei Pro Asyl sowie dem Lesben- und Schwulenverband Deutschland.
Ihr besonderes Engagement galt und gilt den Menschen- und Bürgerrechten, dem Klimaschutz, dem intersektionalen Feminismus, entwicklungs- und asylpolitischen Fragen, dem Anti-Rassismus und der Kultur.

 

Claudia Roth MdB is the Vice-President of the German Bundestag.

Born in Ulm in 1955, Claudia Roth studied theatre and performance studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich following her Abitur in 1974. From 1975, she worked as a dramaturgy assistant, later as a dramaturge at the city theatre in Dortmund and at “Hoffmanns Comic Teater” in Unna. From 1982 to 1985, she was the manager of the band “Ton Steine Scherben”.

As the press officer of the first Green parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, she entered the world of politics in 1985. In 1989, she was elected to the European Parliament. She remained there until 1998, from 1994 as the Green parliamentary group whip, before her election to the German Bundestag. From 1998 to 2001, she was the chair of the newly-founded Committee for Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid, and between March 2003 and October 2004 served as the red-green government’s commissioner for human rights policy and humanitarian aid within the Federal Foreign Office.

Claudia Roth became party leader of Alliance 90/The Greens for the first time in 2001. She was re-elected to this position in 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012. In 2013, her time as party leader ended, and was elected as Vice-President of the German Bundestag on 22 October 2013. She was re-elected to this position on 24 October 2017.

In addition to her political engagement, Claudia Roth was the commissioner for environment and climate action in the DFB (German Football Association) commission on sustainability. She is a member of the board of trustees of the DFB Kulturstiftung (cultural foundation). Claudia Roth is a member of the Humanist Union, Pro Asyl, and the LSVD (Lesbian and Gay Federation in Germany).

She has devoted, and continues to devote, her particular engagement to human and civil rights, climate action, intersectional feminism, development and asylum policy issues, anti-racism, and the cultural sphere.
