European plurality competence, not fantasies of cohesion!

On the potentials of difference in the interplay of religions, worldviews, and society.

Along with our co-hosts at the Eugen Biser Foundation, we invite you to an event at the St. Elisabeth Church in Berlin, to be held on 6 July 2022 as part of the ‘Cohesion through Conflict’ project of the ‘Religion & Democracy’ network!

We live in a plural society. That which is supposed to hold us together is increasingly tearing us apart. Old ideas of social cohesion are therefore in urgent need of an update.

The religious and worldview plurality of our society offers huge opportunities for us to come together from our differences, by broadening our knowledge and perspectives, and by contrasting appreciation with belittlement.
It is time to seek the potentials of difference in the interplay of religions, worldviews, and society – in search of a new, productive cohesion. To do so, we must expand the social frame of reference of our coexistence. But how can this happen? And where?

We would like to discuss these questions with Milad Karimi (philosopher of religion, Islamic studies scholar, translator of the Koran) and Melina Borčak (journalist and filmmaker) and bring young Europeans with their diverse perspectives into conversation with both. The event will be moderated by the author and taz editor Dinah Riese.
